Students in a Corio school will be moving into their new facilities in a little over a year, with a builder appointed to the project.

Melbcon Pty Ltd will construct the Learning Centre at Northern Bay P-12 College’s Hendy P-8 campus in Hendy Street.

The centre will include offices, classrooms and a library.

The main building was severely damaged by a fire in 2024 and has since been temporarily replaced with modular classrooms.

Northern Bay P-12 College has been involved throughout the design process for the Learning Centre, which is expected to welcome its first students in June 2027.

Lara MP, Ella George, welcomed the appointment of Melbcon Pty Ltd today.

“I am so pleased to announce that building works will soon begin at Northern Bay College’s Hendy P-8 campus.

“When Hendy Campus was badly damaged by fire, the staff, students and families of Northern Bay came together to support one another.

“Thank you to everyone in our community who supported students to continue their learning during this challenging time.”

Minister for education, Ben Carroll, said his government had delivered 123 new schools.

“Local students will soon be learning in brand-new classrooms – making Northern Bay P-12 College one of the over 2,300 schools across Victoria upgraded by Labor.”
