STAFF and pupils at Barwon Heads Primary School will be staying home tomorrow (Thursday, July 15) after the school reported a confirmed case of COVID-19 earlier this evening.

According to a message sent out on the school’s messaging system to parents and carers by principal Daniel Vella, the site is “now closed to all students, staff, and community members until further notice”.

“This means no on-site supervision is available.

“While the Department of Health conducts its investigation, staff and students must stay home and limit their movements until advised otherwise.”

Pupils have been told to avoid public places and only leave home for brief periods for necessary activities, including exercise, necessary medical appointments where no alternative (such as telehealth) is available or shopping for necessary items where no-one else in the household can do it and no alternative is available.

It is believed the case is linked to the COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney via the public exposure sites that were announced today and yesterday in Melbourne.

More to come.
