TWO organisations in Geelong’s northern suburbs have received state government funding to deliver projects aimed at improving road safety and saving lives.
The Lions Club of Corio Norlane, which helps schools run Bike Ed programs, will use its grant to upgrade the equipment it uses to deliver the initiative.
Meanwhile, Cultura has secured funding to run its Road Safety for New Arrivals program, which helps new community members learn local road rules and safety practices.
The grants are funded through the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and target projects with a focus on vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, children and older people.
Lara MP Ella George said the grants program gives schools and community groups the chance to create local solutions to local road safety concerns.
“These groups do incredible work in our local community, and this funding will allow them to make a real difference to road safety,” she said.
The region also stands to benefit from an additional $363,000 in funding through the TAC’s road safety grant program.
The funding will support projects that deliver local road safety outcomes.
