Cultural Conversations towards reconciliation
TODAY (June 3), the Geelong Arts Centre present their third annual Cultural Conversations event which will focus on Reconcilliation Week 2023 and being a voice for generations.
Set to be held in Limelight Studio 4 at the Geelong Arts Centre, the event will be facilitated by proud Gunditjmara actor and playwright, Tom Molyneux, who will be joined by Worimi artist, Gerard Black, proud Adnyamathanha woman entrepreneur and Arranyinha business owner, Marsha Uppill, Member for Geelong and Parliamentary Secretary for First Peoples, Christine Couzens MP, as well as dual-premiership former Geelong Cats football star, Mathew Stokes.
The special panelists of local First Nations people will share stories of First Nations culture and examine tangible ways in which the community can all use their power and words to be a voice of reconciliation in their everyday lives.
Geelong Arts Centre CEO Joel McGuiness said the event series was a fantastic way of bringing First Nations voices and stories to the forefront, thus providing a culturally safe space for people to engage in shared learning and important discussions.

“Connecting First Peoples’ stories and voices with the broader community through meaningful conversations and sharing culture is vital for Geelong Arts Centre.”
State member for Geelong Christine Couzens said the Cultural Conversations events were would give the community a chance to “come together and learn from First People’s in an open, supportive and safe place.”
“This is a great opportunity for our region to gather as one and ally with First Nations community in a setting that nurtures Reconciliation Week through raw storytelling and varied artforms at Geelong Arts Centre.”
The Cultural Conversations event is free to attend and kicks off at 2:30pm.
Registration is essential and attendance is strictly capped at 100 people.
