Dad supporting dads
A GEELONG dad is bringing together fathers in the region with a new group dedicated to providing support and connection.
The group, Geelong Dads, is inviting fathers of all kinds, from new and experienced through to those who are expecting children and everything in between.
Group organiser Darcy Nolan said he started putting it together about two weeks ago because there was nothing in the area in the way of support groups for dads.
“My literal thought was why not start something up for dads who are new to the area or who don’t have the chance to connect with other people, just a chance for them to get together and talk about their journey or just talk about life.”
The first Geelong Dads gathering took place last Sunday, November 10 at the Barwon Valley Fun Park.
Mr Nolan said around 15 dads turned out with their kids, along with some future dads who were expecting.
“It was cool to have those guys down as well… it was really nice, having a run around and had a really good chat.”
At the moment the group aims to meet once a month, with plans for future activities and get togethers up for discussion within the group.
Mr Nolan hopes from the group, dads within the community can feel a sense of connection and a space to share stories and support each other.
“It’s a chance for dads in the area to connect and talk with each other, if they need advice about being a dad or if it’s just life advice or anything.”
