Dawnbusters ready for annual run
HUNDREDS of residents are expected to cap off the year on a runner’s high when the 32nd Dawnbuster Fun Run gets going in Geelong on Sunday, December 31.
The Give Where You Live Foundation and Geelong Cross Country Club will again raise funds for the foundation with runners to undertake a five-kilometre circuit around Geelong’s Waterfront.
All proceeds raised will go towards Give Where You Live Foundation programs such as Growing Regional Opportunities for Work (GROW), Feed Geelong and Direct Assistance Vouchers for the Geelong community.
Give Where You Live Foundation chief executive officer Bill Mithen said the 5km course along the scenic Geelong Waterfront provided a challenge for runners of all walks of life.
“For over 30 years the Geelong Cross Country Club has partnered with the Foundation to hold the Dawnbuster Fun Run,” Mr Mithen said.
“It’s always great to see the community come together to support the Foundation, with runners of all ages and fitness levels joining in.
“The Dawnbuster Fun Run is a great way to end the year and kickstart your New Year celebrations, while raising funds for the Foundation to support people in our community who may be experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, or facing barriers to education and employment.”
Dr John Morton of the Geelong Cross Country Club said the Fun Run is a staple of the Geelong running calendar.
“What a legacy! This is Dawnbuster’s 32nd year,” Dr Morton said.
“Every year from 1992, runners have lined up at 7am on New Year’s Eve and run or jogged over the scenic 5km Geelong waterfront course.
“It’s a great way to lead into 2024 while raising community funds for Give Where You Live.”
The race will start at 7am. Registrations for the Fun Run is open now at givewhereyoulive.com.au or on the day from 6am at the Carousel.
