April 7, 2024 BY

L-R: Event MC Tom King joined Geelong United general manager of pathways Megan Moody, NBL1 men's Grant Wallace, and NBL1 women's head coach Jamie Petty.

SPIRITS were high at the official Geelong United Basketball season launch as stakeholders and supporters gathered to hear from the association ahead of an exciting 2024 campaign.

In partnership with the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, the launch was held at The Geelong Arena, with representatives from both organisations leading the proceedings.

L-R: Matthew Fletcher (KPMG), Yogi Stefanovski (Harvest Talent Recruitment & People Solutions), and Ally Raduka (Harvest Talent Recruitment & People Solutions).

Geelong United general manager of pathways Megan Moody said the launch went extremely well.

“Connie [Bolger] and the team from Geelong Chamber threw a fantastic night for everyone to enjoy.

“It was great to see players mingling with sponsors, and potentially with businesses we haven’t met before. It was also good for people to be able meet our players too.”

Guests got the chance to hear from NBL1 head coaches Grant Wallace and Jamie Petty regarding the coming NBL1 South season in a Q&A interview, while Geelong Chamber of Commerce CEO Jeremy Crawford addressed visitors as well.

Geelong United representatives also updated sponsors on the ongoing negotiations of a new WNBL license being granted to Geelong.

The NBL1 South season begins this Sunday, April 7 for Geelong United with an away game at Ballarat, but Ms Moody said she would love to see as many fans as possible at the club’s NBL1 home opener on Friday, April 12 against Bendigo.

L-R: Michael Parker (Lifeline), Kerri Bennett (Yellow Door Digital), and Karen Jackson (Novotel Geelong) took part in the GUB shooting activation on the night.

“To get a full house at The Arena adds such a tremendous atmosphere for both teams to play in front of.

“It’s a great court to play on and for our home players, we’d love to get as much support as we can behind them, a home crowd can really change the momentum of a game and playing against Bendigo, you know there’s going to be some momentum swings.”
