Dine for Pink hailed a success
IN A ROOM full of pink, the Geelong Harness Racing Club raised thousands for the Breast Cancer Network Australia in their dine for pink event (BCNA).
On May 17, community members headed to the track for the night as they raised awareness within the region and funds to support the work of the BCNA.
Geelong Harness Racing Club General Manager Joe Fiala said they were happy with how the event went and it was a fantastic night.
“It was a great success, the room was jam packed, it looked really good on the night all in pink.”
Live auctions, ran by auctioneer Matt Plunkett from Buxton Real Estate, helped fundraise, with all the items up for grabs donated, a silent auction and merchandise sales from the BCNA also added to the fundraising tally.
In the packed out room, Geelong local and breast cancer survivor Daniela Damevska spoke at the event for a second year, sharing her story with the hope of encouraging people to go and get a scan.
“She spoke to everybody in the room and was quite, humorous but also serious and it was a good chat to raise awareness for everyone in the room,” Mr Fiala said.
Surgeons Dr. Conrad Brandt and Dr Joshua Lin also gave speeches.
“They shared their experiences and knowledge of breast cancer and what they’ve experienced, you could hear a pin drop in the room when they spoke.”
The Dine for Pink event is an initiative of Harness Racing Victoria who hold Pacing for Pink events during May.
“We look forward in the future to making it bigger and better next year,” Mr Fiala said.
The Geelong Harness Racing Club thanks all their partners for their support on the night and in helping raise awareness.
