Don’t Forget my Pet throw community paw-ty
TAILS will wag next weekend as the Don’t Forget my Pet Foundation and the Grovedale Uniting Church come together for a day of community fun.
Hosted at the Uniting Church on October 12, furry friends will be treated to pet blessings, free vet nurse care, canine treats and much more.
Don’t Forget my Pet is a charity committed to helping those in need of support to keep their pets, focusing on supporting those experiencing financial difficulty, people over 65 and individuals dealing with illness, disability or mental health challenges.
Managing director Alysha McKenzie said it was through the organisation they realised people are struggling financially and really struggling with veterinary care.
“One of the things that is going to be at the event is vet nurses, providing some of that advice and basic veterinary care for people for free.
“It’s an opportunity for people to come down and help create more of that community, but with their pets in a friendly and fun way.”
Originally the event started out with the pet blessing, retuning for its second year, before growing in size to include a range of other offerings.
“We came in it from the community perspective but also from the veterinary nurse perspective and then it grew into this community event,” Ms McKenzie said.
She said it was about creating a “pupapalooza” but with a bit of a difference.
Through the event Ms McKenzie helps to raise people’s awareness of the organisation and building a sense of community to reduce isolation.
All donations made on the day will also go towards the Don’t Forget my Pet Foundation in providing their care and services.
Pets are encouraged to dress up for the event.
