THE first two stages of a Huntly residential community, known as Harlowe, have sold out, with all 60 lots snapped up by buyers in just one month.

The site is under construction in the region’s north by developer Wel.Co and will include more than 400 homes once complete.

Founder and managing director of Wel.Co, Andrew Welsh, said the sales amounted to more than $15 million, with buyer interest piquing early.

“We had well over 700 enquiries before we actually launched the sales,” he said.

“We had planned just to release the first stage but that was fully signed up within the first 20 minutes and sold out within the first weekend.

“Then we released the second stage two weeks later, which went in a similar time frame.”

Mr Welsh said while buyers included those local to the region and looking for land, there was also a strong interest coming from tree changers.

“The Greater Bendigo area hasn’t had large available land within projects for a good period of time, so there’s demand from people wanting to stay [in the region],” he said.

“Equally, the greater market of people looking from the Melbourne area to relocate to regional Victoria is still extremely strong.

“A large number of buyers that have come into Harlowe’s first two stages are from Melbourne or greater Melbourne areas looking for that regional move.”

The residential community is planned to include a childcare centre and four hectares of parks and walking tracks, with the average block size about 500 square metres.

Mr Welsh said the first stage lots will be titled this year, with construction of houses to begin in about 12 months’ time.
