Economic plan for region

August 12, 2021 BY

The City of Greater Geelong is inviting businesses and the wider community to help develop a 10-year Economic Development Plan for the region.

LOCAL businesses and community members have less than a week to provide valuable information for the City of Greater Geelong’s 10-year Economic Development Plan.

The city is developing its new economic development plan for the next decade and will use data gathered through two online surveys, targeting business owners and community members, including residents or workers.

The Economic Development Plan 2021–2031 will guide the council’s priorities to make sure it continues to deliver the right services and support for local businesses, and help create a sustainable, prosperous future for the wider community.

According to the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research for 2020, the City of Greater Geelong’s Gross Regional Product is estimated at $14.93 billion, which represents 3.22 per cent of the state’s GSP, supporting almost 119,000 jobs and 20,000 businesses.
The council is asking businesses and other people in the community to complete an online survey, so the decision makers understand the community’s expectations, priorities, issues and opportunities it sees.

The city is also consulting with businesses, advocacy groups and industry bodies as it as the new plan for the regional economy is developed.

The Economic Development Plan has the potential to deliver benefits for everyone in Greater Geelong, so it’s important that anyone in the community – not just businesses – have their say on the project.

Visit the Have Your Say page on the city’s website to complete the survey before Tuesday, August 17.
