Elderslie Reserve draped in purple for Zoe Kennedy Tribute Match
SATURDAY was a emotional day for former Bell Park football player and father Lach Kennedy, as he attended Elderslie Reserve for the second annual Zoe Kennedy Tribute Match.
Mr Kennedy said despite what the day meant to him and his family personally, it was great to see Newtown & Chilwell and Bell Park representatives draped in purple in memory of his late daughter Zoe, who passed away suddenly from an asthma attack in 2020 at the age of 15.
“It was amazing to see how many people came out in support of the day.
“It was pretty overwhelming to be honest, there was a sense of pride on the day, but also mixed feelings I suppose.
“At the end of the day, you’ve just got to step back and be proud of what is going on.”
The Zoe Kennedy Tribute Match’s primary goal is to raise awareness about asthma and funds to support young people with asthma
The day included netball matches starting at 8am, followed by football matches for the Under 16s, Under 18s, and Reserves.
The main netball presentation before the A Grade fixture was held at 1.30 pm.
Activities for the day were capped off by the senior football match with both sides wearing special Zoe Kennedy Foundation socks, a trophy presentation, live entertainment, food trucks, a raffle draw, and an art auction.
“It’s amazing to see Zoe and I’s two clubs come together for this occasion each year and really embrace what we’re about and help contribute to the foundation,” Mr Kennedy said.
Lach has a second daughter, Maggie; and a son, Ned, who is an asthmatic like Zoe, and had the honour of tossing the coin before the opening bounce of the seniors football game.
