Entertainers hope to bowl over locals
A NEW Geelong business would transform a Corio bowling alley into a vibrant “eatertainery” in a major boost for the northern Geelong suburb.
Melbourne business General Public, which brands itself as “Melbourne’s only eatertainery”, has planned an expansion into Corio Village to revive the 10-pin centre.
General Public would bring its family-friendly venue that incorporates bowling lanes, pool tables, arcade games and food and drink offerings to the city under plans presently before the City of Greater Geelong.
A new Corio centre would build on the company’s franchises at Dingley and Frankston in Melboune’s south-east, where it has earned a reputation of having a bright, colourful and fun atmosphere.
The proposed site could host up to 350 people and would be open until midnight seven days a week.
Events and children’s parties would also be common at the new development, which would also have a liquor license.
Proponents have argued that their proposal would provide a valuable boost for the Corio community.
“The proposal will introduce a well-regarded and exciting new commercial offering for the Corio Village Shoopping Centre, which will integrate well with the established centre and provide a net benefit to the community,” planning documents stated.
The City of Greater Geelong advertised for public comment on the plans until January 3.
