A breathtaking property at Torquay’s Esplanade has broken the town’s house price record as the seaside street continues to be the go-to area for the local market’s biggest spenders.

98 The Esplanade, Torquay sold for an undisclosed figure this week, with the fee understood to be well above the $5.8 million splashed down the road at 189 The Esplanade early last year.

The most recent sale had been advertised for $7.75 million-$7.95 million when its campaign launched during spring last year.

McCartney Real Estate director Tim Carson said the eventual buyer from regional Victoria stumped up a price that was “not too far away” from the listed price in a result that satisfied all parties.

“The interest we had on the place was pretty good, but it was always going to be a special sort of buyer that was going to be successful.

“In my opinion it’s the best place in Torquay, if not along the Surf Coast.”

Mr Carson said he had walked through about a dozen prospective buyers to inspect the coastal gem in recent months.

The property is directly across the road from Fishermans Beach at the corner of Darian Road, providing a location that is as enviable as its architecture.

Previous owners had built their dream holiday home in 2018 as the ideal entertainer for family and friends at the handpicked block at the centre of the town’s action.

Its design and construction have a distinct local flavour, with Jan Juc architect Jeremy Anderson (Eldridge Anderson) and Torquay builder Steve Dunstan (SK Dunstan) delivering the outstanding residence.

Mr Carson said the thoughtful design and high-quality finishes each helped enhance the appeal of the stunning home.

“It comes down to the quality of the home; the architecture, views; everything about it.

“The simplicity of it is exceptional, to just let the view and everything shine.

“Like the owners had said, you can see four seasons in one day at the property because there’s everything going on.

“The owners, builders and architects have all done exceptional jobs.

“Once you get upstairs in that kitchen/dining/living area, you just go ‘wow’.”

The home makes an impact from the outset with its striking modern façade that incorporates timber and stone elements to deliver a natural feel, and its large glass windows designed to take in the one-of-a-kind views of Zeally Bay.

The standout feature is the vast open-plan living/dining/kitchen area upstairs that features uninterrupted, panoramic views of the ocean through its huge glass windows.

A master bedroom suite with walk-in robe and its own bathroom, a separate powder room, viewing deck and outdoor entertaining area complete the space. Downstairs includes a double-car garage, stylish entry, three bedrooms including one with ensuite, a central bathroom and laundry.

An indoor-outdoor living area, inground heated pool and private, landscaped courtyard outside finish the ground level.

Timber and stone themes continue throughout the interior for the property to seamlessly blend in with its idyllic Torquay surroundings.

Luxury features such as double-sided gas fireplace, a butler’s pantry, electric doors covering reverse-cycle air conditioning and a lift to the upper level complementing the staircase are among the finishing touches that finish one of Torquay’s most prestigious homes.98 The Esplanade, Torquay sold for an undisclosed figure this week.
