Evolve your business with help from Evan Crick
EVAN Crick’s knowledge of business has seen him achieve many accolades in his life – the most noteworthy being his establishment of Mitre 10 in Torquay.
Beginning as Surfside Timber in 1984, the store became part of the Mitre 10 franchise in 1988.
And for the 30 years it was in his hands, customers experienced Evan and wife Sue’s dedication to exceptional service.
Prior to Mitre 10, Evan managed hotels in Melbourne and worked as an agent for Godfrey Hirst.
It was when the Ash Wednesday bushfires devastated Victoria that he made the plunge into the world of business.
“I remember when we first came here (Torquay), there was a population of about 8,000 people.
“After the Ash Wednesday bushfires, I held a carpet sale in the Aireys Inlet Hall to sell carpet for people re-building houses, and that’s how I got the idea to start Mitre 10.”
After selling the business in 2014, Evan went on to work as a Mitre 10 consultant and mentored many Mitre 10 and Home Timber and Hardware staff across Australia.
But the travel eventually wore him down after nearly five years in the role. Eager to continue sharing his knowledge, Evan Crick Consulting was born.
“I thought, with all this knowledge and experience, I’ve got to start something else,” he said.
“I want to help people, both independent businesses and corporates. There are a lot of businesses in Torquay and the coastal areas which are mum and dad businesses that could probably do with some help.
“All businesses need some kind of advice. You’ve got to look at evolving your business as people’s needs change.”
Based in Jan Juc, Evan is looking forward to expanding his reach and working with a range of Victorian businesses.
“My forte is in retail and customer service, but I know I won’t have any trouble applying my knowledge to other industries.
“I’ve got more than 50 years’ experience and a fair bit to offer.”
Evan Crick Consulting offers three packages but can target each one to best suit the client and their business.
