FIREFIGHTERS have exercised a different set of skills after

rushing to the rescue of a kitten stuck in a drain in Armstrong Creek.

A CFA crew from the Connewarre Fire Brigade responded to the request for help at a drain near Barwon Heads Road at about 6.12pm on November 28.

Rafal Kennedy from the brigade said it was lucky firefighters were already nearby.

“The crew was responding to another incident nearby when we were alerted some members of the public had seen and heard the kitten in the drain.”

The kitten was rescued from this drain in Armstrong Creek.

The CFA volunteers worked quickly to free the kitten from the drain, which was thankfully uninjured.

Safe but looking a little wet, the kitten was taken into the care of a local animal rescue.

The November 28 rescue took place two days before another CFA crew, this time from the Skye Fire Brigade, rescued a cat stuck in a tree in Carrum Downs.

For animals much bigger than kittens, the CFA has two brigades that specialise in large animal rescues.
