Fireworks displaysto mark the new year
THE Greater Geelong region will send off 2024 with a bang as its celebrations welcome 2025.
The City of Greater Geelong has confirmed the return of its free fireworks displays to the Waterfront at midnight on December 31.
A family-friendly hour at dusk will begin the build-up to official fireworks celebrations at 9.30pm, before the second round of fireworks is set off in Corio Bay for the traditional midnight display.
“We’re excited to ring in 2025 with two fireworks displays over Corio Bay this New Year’s Eve,” City executive director of placemaking Tennille Bradley said.
“For families and those keen for an early night, we’ll have fireworks from 9.30pm before a second display at the traditional time of midnight.
“Both displays will be safely discharged from a barge and will run for eight minutes.
“We encourage you to take advantage of this special event with loved ones by having a picnic at Eastern Beach, supporting a central Geelong hospitality venue or finding the perfect vantage spot.
“We recommend pet owners bring their animals indoors or secure them in a safe location when the fireworks are discharged.”
No family rides, music or food trucks will be available to residents during the displays.
Eastern Beach Road will be closed between Moorabool and Yarra streets from 8pm until 12.30am on Wednesday, January 1.
