OVER $27,000 has been raised during the Give Where You Live Foundation’s (GWLYF) 2022 Christmas Appeal, making the festive season brighter for members of the community in need.

With Christmas among the toughest times of the year for some individuals, children, and their families, the GWYLF hope the funds can help relieve some of the challenges of homelessness, food insecurity, loneliness and isolation in the community.

GWYLF CEO Bill Mithen said that the funds raised during the Christmas Appeal would enable the foundation to provide more support to local organisations who deliver programs to assist the vulnerable.

“Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Give Where You Live Foundation’s 2022 Christmas Appeal raised almost $30,000 to support people in need over the festive season and into 2023,” Mr Mithen said.

“For families facing hardship or living on low incomes and struggling to afford basic needs, the Christmas period can add significant stress and financial pressure.

“We were very proud to distribute $20,000 of grants in December, to four community organisations to help vulnerable members of our community remain connected and access support over the Christmas period.

“OneCare Geelong, The Outpost, The Power In You Project and Colac Neighbourhood House each received a $5,000 grant to help them provide community meals, food hampers and Christmas/New Year celebrations throughout December.”
