BARWON Health Foundation (BHF) is calling on the community to take on “feel good” volunteering opportunities at this weekend’s Critical Care Appeal.

From today (Friday, June 21) through to Sunday, June 23, the local-not-for-profit will raise money to support the purchase of vital medical equipment for its critical care departments.

Community members are encouraged to give their time by tin shaking, cooking barbecues or selling raffle tickets at fundraising sites across Geelong.

BHF acting executive director Frances Trainor said the power of the people would be a defining factor to the success during the appeal.

“There’s not a person in our region who won’t be touched by the work of Barwon Health in some way throughout their lifetime.

“By donating an hour or two of your time you’re helping us be there for you when you need it most.

“One hour of tin shaking alone can generate nearly $700, which is incredible.”

Ms Trainor said new state-of-the-art equipment would allow University Hospital Geelong to save lives.

“The need for critical care could happen to any one of us, or our loved ones, at any time.

“We have to make sure that our local health service is equipped with the very best for these emergency situations.”
