GEELONG’S Beav’s Bar has been named the national winner of the inaugural OneMusic live music competition, a nationwide initiative to champion live music venues and their vital role in the music and cultural landscape.
As part of the win, acclaimed indie artist Lisa Mitchell will perform a free show at Beav’s Bar later this month, offering locals a rare chance to experience an artist of Mitchell’s calibre in an intimate, community-focused setting.
The OneMusic Live Music Competition received more than 400 entries from metropolitan and regional venues across the nation, with Beav’s Bar securing top honours.
Since opening more than 22 years ago, Beav’s Bar has remained committed to supporting local and Australian artists.
“We’ve always backed Australian artists and local music,” Beav’s Bar owner Richard Flanders said.
“They’re what makes Beav’s Bar what it is today – a place where live music is celebrated and where people from all walks of life come together.”
Venue manager Siobhan Bradley said live music was the heart and soul of Beav’s.
“We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to the team at OneMusic for selecting us – it’s an honour we’re extremely proud of.”
Mitchell has released four albums and three EPs, earning top 10 ARIA accolades, multiple ARIA and APRA Award nominations for Breakthrough Artist and Breakthrough Songwriter, and the Australian Music Prize for her debut album Wonder.
Local artist Luke Bisca will support Mitchell at the February 22 gig.
“This event celebrates live music done right,” OneMusic Australia director Karen Holmes said.
“It highlights the importance of music licensing in ensuring artists are paid fairly, while recognising the cultural and economic value live music brings to local businesses and communities.”
Doors at Beav’s Bar will open at 3pm. RSVP essential via Eventbrite.
