THE community can again pick up free mulch this weekend at Lara’s Chirnside Park, created from trees downed in last month’s storm.

The mulch is available tomorrow (Saturday, March 2) and Sunday, March 3 from 7.30am-5pm at the Patullos Road site.

The significant weather event left Lara with more 15 loads of green waste, which was offered back to the community as mulch last weekend and again this weekend.

City of Greater Geelong executive director of city infrastructure James Stirton said the city was keen to help.

“We’re excited to offer Greater Geelong residents the chance to pick up free mulch for their properties following the storm last week.

“It’s been a challenging time for some residents with the cleanup effort, so we are pleased to be able to give back to the community.

“We also need help to recycle the mulch as the pile is growing at Chirnside Park while the cleanup continues in the region.

“A big thank you to those community members who have been proactive by moving branches off the road.

“Our team has worked extremely hard to make the community safe in a short period of time.

“Residents are welcome to bring a trailer along to collect the free mulch both this weekend and next.”

Residents are encouraged to bring trailers for mulch collection.

Additionally, the Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre is waiving green waste disposal fees for affected Greater Geelong residents until 30April 30, excluding truck disposals.

Lara residents can alternatively use the Wyndham landfill for free storm waste disposal.

For nature strip waste, the Drysdale facility or green bins are the disposal options.
