Geelong Art Show makes its debut

A NEW art show has opened its doors to the community and provided a new platform for artists not only in Geelong but across the state.

The Geelong Art Show, organised by charity Geelong Art Show Inc., held its debut exhibition over the weekend, setting up inside Sacred Heart College with more than 240 works.

 

Visitors to the exhibition, which held its opening night on Friday night last week, not only supported the thriving art community but also contributed to funding cancer research, as funds raised will go to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

Works were judged by Paul McDonald Smith, a Geelong-based artist who worked as a professional artist throughout his life.

 

Geelong Art Show Inc. founder Deb Fribbins started the charity with seven other volunteers, who are all professionals in various fields.

She said the Geelong Art Show had three objectives:

• To support the growing diverse artistic community in Victoria, not just Geelong
• To enable art lovers to see and purchase this art in Geelong centrally, and
• To support Australian charities with surplus funds from the event

“We have big plans for this charity,” she said.

 

“We are a registered not-for-profit charity whose intention is for this to be an annual event.

“We have plans to expand the categories over coming years to include more mediums.”
