Arts Industry Commissions to spur Geelong’s creative sector

THE City of Greater Geelong council has launched a new Arts Industry Commissions program (AIC) in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The AIC program offers a series of commissioning opportunities designed to provide support to professionals working in the arts, cultural and heritage sectors who have been adversely affected by COVID-19.
It aims to generate cross-industry partnerships that will positively affect a range of areas relevant to community life in the Geelong and Bellarine region.
Interested parties are invited to submit an expression of interest in one or more of the following categories:

• Community Health
• Urban Design
• Marketing and Cultural Tourism
• Cultural Heritage, or
• Public Experiences.

Individuals, sole traders, artist collectives, organisations and venues in the arts and creative industries are eligible to apply.
The program will offer up to 15 individual commissions of up to $20,000 each, for projects to be completed before June 30, 2021.
“As we experience a second lockdown, the arts, cultural and heritage sectors will unfortunately suffer further impacts from the COVID-19 crisis,” Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.
“I really encourage creatives to take advantage of this opportunity and consider applying for a commission.”
Submissions opened on Monday this week and will be accepted up to 5pm on September 28.
