Arrest made after body discovered in Geelong

A woman’s body was discovered near the Eastern Beach Pavilion in Geelong this morning, triggering a homicide investigation.

Emergency services were called to the popular waterfront precinct about 11.25am, where the body of a 49-year-old Springvale woman was discovered.

Police confirmed the woman was deceased at the scene.

Later in the day, Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 53-year-old man in Geelong’s CBD.

The man, who has no fixed address, is in custody and will be interviewed by police in relation to the woman’s death.

Detectives believe the man and woman were known to each other.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the investigation remains ongoing, and they are appealing for public assistance.

“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Eastern Beach area this morning, or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, is urged to come forward,” they said.
