THE Geelong Breast Clinic (GBC) has officially been opened at its new purpose-built space inside St John of God Granada Medical Centre by Deputy Prime Minster and Corio MP Richard Marles.

On Friday, October 7, to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness month, Mr Marles opened the new clinic located at 88 Myers Street, which was formerly located in Gheringhap Street.

The Geelong Breast Clinic is a practice of local medical imaging provider Lake Imaging and offers private breast imaging services including radiologist consultations, breast ultrasounds, mammography and breast tomosynthesis, image guided interventional procedures and breast MRI services.

The new space will help to provide and support the health and wellbeing of the local community as well as those who have been travelling from Ballarat, Warrnambool and Melbourne’s West to access the expertise at Geelong Breast Clinic.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles said officially opening the new facility alongside the experienced team at GBC was a massive honour.

“The people at Geelong Breast Clinic who work day-in, day-out to provide the support, service and care that they do for their patients is unparalleled,” he said.

“It’s not lost on the Geelong community how vital a service this is to have locally and the importance of such a critical, dedicated clinic.

“Opening this facility today, a leading diagnostic breast imaging service- will go that step further in providing that critical support.”

GBC Clinical Director and Radiologist, Dr Linda West has pioneered breast imaging in Geelong for the past 30 years and said her team look forward to continuing to provide compassionate care to all patients in the new space.

“We are excited to have recently opened the doors to our new purpose-built clinic, which is conveniently located right next door to SJOG Hospital,” West said.

“With breast cancer impacting so many women in the community, our team understand the emotional nature of visits to our clinic, and we are dedicated to looking after our patients with compassion.

“As a comprehensive breast imaging service, we use the scanning equipment and technology, alongside a team of highly experienced radiologists.

“The addition of our new service, Contrast Enhanced Mammography, makes us Geelong’s leading diagnostic breast imaging service”.

The clinic’s newest imaging technique, which is a first for the region, combines 3D Tomosynthesis digital mammography with an IV contrast agent to show new or unusual blood flow patterns in breast tissue.

The exam is quick and effective at diagnosing breast cancers which may not be seen using other methods.

Due to high demand for breast imaging services, the Geelong Breast Clinic now offer a 5-day diagnostic service (Monday to Friday), providing patients with greater access to appointments and less wait times.
