GEELONG resident and experienced sport, hospitality and healthcare executive Jeremy Crawford will lead the Geelong Chamber of Commerce as its CEO from next month.

The chamber announced its new head today, following an extensive four-month search to replace outgoing chief Ben Flynn who departs the job at the end of March.

Mr Crawford joins from Medibank, where he has been head of talent acquisition and senior partnerships manager.

His earlier experience includes as CEO of Werribee Racing Club and senior roles with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and Rydges Hotels before the coming switch to the Geelong business body.

“The Chamber has such a rich history supporting businesses in Geelong. I’m excited to join as CEO and look forward to building upon the 170 years of tradition as we enter the next chapter of success,” Mr Crawford said.

“The next two to three years in Geelong are exciting and offer incredible opportunities for businesses to leverage and prosper through the development of new infrastructure, population growth, and regional events such as the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games,” he said.

In his new role, Mr Crawford will oversee the day-to-day operations of the region’s peak business body, including implementing strategic plans, and building relationships with stakeholders and the broader community.

Geelong Chamber president Dr John Stekelenburg said the board was looking forward to the start of Mr Crawford’s tenure.

“Jeremy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our organisation having worked with business entities and leading corporate partnerships.

“He has great charisma and passion for the Geelong region. The selection panel were impressed by Jeremy’s enthusiasm and are certain he’ll connect very well with our vibrant membership community.

“We are confident that he will provide exceptional leadership as we continue to support and promote the growth of local businesses in the Geelong area.

“We are excited to work with him to advance our mission and help our members thrive.”

Outgoing CEO Ben Flynn announced his intention to leave the role late last year to travel with his family.

“We would like to thank Ben for all his work as CEO over the last four years and the smooth transition through to Jeremy,” Dr Stekelenburg said.

The Chamber will recognize the changeover at its After 5 networking event tomorrow night (Wednesday, March 15) at GHMBA stadium. Tickets are still available.
