Geelong celebrates Children’s Week
GROUPS and organisations across the Geelong region will celebrate Children’s Week this month with a range of events and activities on offer.
Children’s Week is a national celebration, running from October 19 until 27, recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.
This year’s events embrace the theme of “children have the right to a clean and safe environment.”
As part of this year’s events, Larissas Imaginarium Project will open the doors to its Manifold Heights venue for a free interactive Children’s stage show.
Across eight performances from October 22 until October 25, the Musical Garden will invite families to sing, dance and play as special mascots join in on the fun.
Owner Larissa Taylor said the show is multigenerational, with a mix of songs grandparents will know and plenty of entertainment for the children.
“They’ll walk into the hall and there will be a stage set like a magical garden.
“They’ll get packs to use during the show, I’ll them to grab out each instrument out of the pack and the mascots will come out, it’s a really interactive show.”
Ms Taylor said through the Children’s Week events people are able to find community and friendships.
“I always say from the stage, you might not know anyone as you walked in the door, but I hope by the time you leave today you’ve made a friend or a connection with someone in your community.”
Belmont Toy Library will also join in on the fun with the return of their family games and pizza party on October 27.
The library ran the event last year with great success and has received a grant from the City of Greater Geelong to improve this year’s celebration.
“We’re using the grant to purchase a bunch of new games for the toy library, which will showcase on the afternoon,” Belmont Toy Libraries Jess Thompson said.
“We’ll have heaps of different games of different age ranges, there’s some collaborative games and some competitive games, there’ll also be some other activities.
The family and games pizza party is open to everybody, without having to be a member of the toy library.
