GEELONG Cemeteries Trust is reminding visitors to keep dogs on a lead at all times when visiting its cemeteries and memorial parks.

Trust chief executive Dean Matthews said the rule is in place to protect the safety, comfort and peace of all visitors.

“Our cemeteries are place where families come to reflect and remember.

“Keeping dogs on a lead helps ensure those visits are calm, safe and uninterrupted.”

He said respecting these spaces was a shared responsibility.

“We all play a part in caring for our grounds.

“By keeping dogs on a lead and being mindful of others, we can preserve the calm and respectful environments we all expect and deserve.”

Signage at the entrances of all cemeteries and memorial parks outlines visitor expectations, including on-lead requirements and the need to clean up after pets.
