GENEROUS Geelong businesses, organisations and residents have donated more than $30,000 to a weekend fundraising appeal to support local groups and community members in need.

The Give Where You Live Foundation (GWYLF) had its annual Give Geelong Appeal from May 19 to 21, which began with a launch breakfast and included a host of fundraising drives and events to rake in the amount.

GWYLF CEO Bill Mithen said the charity was thrilled with the Geelong community’s support.

“Thank you to everyone who supported the 2022 Give Geelong Appeal. We’re thrilled to share it raised over $30,000 to support the foundation’s vital work across to create a fairer G21 community,” Mr Mithen said.

“The Give Geelong Appeal provides the opportunity for our community to give back directly to our region. Every dollar raised will stay in the G21 region and support our work in creating a community where all people and places thrive.”

Funds raised during the Give Geelong Appeal will focus on local programs that support education and employment opportunities, while also supporting people who are experiencing life-inhibiting crisis to meet their basic needs.

Meanwhile, the foundation continued its fundraising efforts with an online donation drive on Thursday evening (June 2).

Pitch Up Geelong was a live Zoom event where residents will take turns making pledges to any of three charities.

Wellways Australia, Hope Bereavement Care and Little Dreamers Australia are the organisations set to benefit from the drive.

Funding partners Anthony Costa Foundation, gforce employment and recruitment, Harwod Andrews and Kerr’s Hire will collectively match any donations made on the night to double local contributions.
