Geelong is buzzing with events

September 27, 2024 BY
SADLY for Geelong footy fanatics, the Cats fell short of making tomorrow’s AFL grand final.

But they still have plenty to be proud of, despite their heartbreaking loss to Brisbane on Saturday.

The preliminary final was their 13th in the last 18 years, an incredible stat that – as a North Melbourne fan – I can only be envious of.

And while the Cats won’t be playing in tomorrow’s big game, Geelong is still buzzing with activities in the coming months.

On October 10, up to 2000 participants are expected at GMHBA Stadium for a dawn yoga session as the sun rises over the Reg Hickey Stand.

This special event celebrates World Mental Health Day, emphasising the connection between physical activity and mental wellbeing.

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a beginner, this is a wonderful opportunity to engage in movement and mindfulness within a supportive community.

The event is a chance to connect, support each other and embrace movement and mindfulness.

Plus it supports Active Geelong and Read the Play, organisations dedicated to promoting physical activity and mental health in our region.

The following weekend, the Royal Geelong Show returns to the Geelong Showgrounds in Breakwater, delighting local families and visitors alike.

With roots dating back to 1855, this event features competitions that showcase everything from homecraft and wool garments to local livestock and pets including alpacas, cows and budgerigars.

The show also includes all the regular family favourites such as fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights, vintage machinery displays, live entertainment, a petting farm, rides and, of course, showbags.

In November, don’t miss the Piccadilly Market, a perfect opportunity to discover Geelong’s hidden treasures while supporting local artisans.

Enjoy live entertainment, delicious food and more than 30 stalls filled with handmade goods and local produce.

Taking place on November 8 from 5pm to 9pm at Geelong Arts Centre, it’s an ideal chance to find unique gifts or treat yourself to something special.

Later in November, prepare for an action-packed weekend with both the Geelong Revival Motoring Festival and the Queenscliff Music Festival happening from November 22–24.

The Geelong Revival is Australia’s largest classic motoring event, featuring more than 1500 vehicles on display and racing along the waterfront.

Racing begins at 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday, showcasing thrilling quarter-mile sprints for cars and motorcycles.

And make sure to check out the Top Ten at the end of each day’s racing, where the fastest cars and motorcycles battle it out for overall honours.

Meanwhile, the Queenscliff Music Festival will bring great food, fantastic vibes and a lineup of talented performers to the Bellarine Peninsula.

This year’s lineup features Andy Golledge Band, Bella Deer, Bob Log III, Bondi Cigars, C.W. Stoneking, Caitlin Harnett & the Pony Boys, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Charlie Needs Braces, Checkerboard Lounge, Chikchika, Coterie, Elizabeth Riordan, Emily Wurramara, Fools, Gimmy, Grace Cummings, Hassall, Ishan, Jack Botts, Jasmin Adria, Joe Terror, Kasey Chambers, Maddie Jackway, Marlon Williams, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission, Nathan Beretta, Queenie Rob Edwards, Sugar Fed Leopards, Sweethearts, The Bures Band, The High Street Drifters, The Meltdown, The Stamps, The Weeping Willows, The Wiggles Sound System ft DJ Dorothy, Tides Of Welcome, Tjaka, Vaudeville Smash, Whistle & Trick, Wild Honey, Winksy, and Xavier Rudd.
