A GEELONG hospital project has been recognised at the Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards, which marked the organisation’s 150th anniversary this year.
Kane Constructions won the award for Excellence in Construction of a Commercial Building
($15–20 million) for the Barwon Health Paediatric Emergency Department.
Delivered in three phases at University Hospital Geelong, the $19 million department was completed in September last year and includes family-friendly spaces, private support rooms, a low-stimulus interview area, 28 treatment spaces, new treatment rooms, support areas and a separate paediatric triage system and waiting area.
Master Builders chief executive officer Michaela Lihou congratulated all the award winners.
“These awards continue to be one of the most powerful ways we acknowledge and celebrate our members,” she said.
“And as we mark our 150th anniversary, these awards also speak to a legacy that spans generations before us and shine a light on the emerging leaders who will carry our industry forward.”

Master Builders Victoria president Geoff Purcell said this year’s nominees and winners continued to raise the bar.
“This year, it feels especially fitting to shine a light on the individuals, teams and members whose work continues to promote what excellence in our industry looks like.”
Geelong company Lyons Construction was a finalist for Regional Commercial Builder of the Year for their build of Geelong College’s Belerren Centre.
The Master Builders Excellence in Housing Awards will take place on October 10, which also includes local company Victorian Built.
