Geelong RRC continues waste restrictions
For the safety of visitors and staff, the City of Greater Geelong has made the decision to not take the materials until permanent safety upgrades are completed at the facility.
Geelong RRC stopped accepting the products last year for site upgrades, and there has since been a large improvement in movement and safety around the site.
Upgrades around the facility were aimed at improving the capacity and traffic flow of Geelong RRC, making it easier for customers to drop off items for recycling and disposal.
“With the site’s limited capacity and the large volume of materials being processed, this temporary diversion has made a real difference,” Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said.
“It allows for traffic flow and helps us better manage the site’s resources, all while continuing to meet community needs.
Garden organics, soil and rubble can still be dropped off at other locations, including Transformer Metals in North Geelong, Green Care Mulching in Moolap and Fyansford Waste Disposal.
Chair of the council’s environment and circular portfolio Cr Elise Wilkinson said the community had adapted well to the changes and using other drop-off sites.
“We’re committed to making Geelong’s Waste management systems safer, more efficient and better equipped to serve our community.”
Difficult-to-recycle materials, which are not accepted at other nearby facilities, can be prioritised though the extension of the arrangement.
Community members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the master plan for the Geelong RRC now being developed.
