Geelong Show preparations in full swing as organisers stock stallholders
PREPARATIONS are underway for this year’s highly anticipated Royal Geelong Show at the Geelong Showgrounds from October 17-20.
Show committee president and member of Royal Geelong Agricultural and Pastoral Society, Tom McCann, said he is excited for how this year’s event will shape up, with dozens of activations and site holders confirmed to be on offer for guests over the four-day event.
“Things are moving along well at the moment, we’re looking to reinvigorate things again this year and we’re taking on board a few lesson from last year to ensure the Royal Geelong Show maintains the community feeling,” Mr McCann said.
“We probably struggled a little bit last year in not getting as many stallholders as we normally do, that’s because a lot of the businesses we had long-running relationships with had closed down due to the pandemic.
“That’s left us with the challenge to go out and engage interest in new site holders for this year, but that also brings with it a lot of excitement as to how a different-looking Geelong Show will be received by the community.”
Monster Trucks Australia, carnival rides, live performances, farm presentations, and animal competitions are all among the community favourites to return this year.
The show’s agricultural competitions continue to be the major attraction for visitors, featuring top entries in cattle, sheep, horses, goats, alpacas, poultry, budgerigar, and dog sections.
Coming off the back of a full program in 2023, Mr McCann admitted he expects the Show to again take a different shape, but reaffirmed the atmosphere will continue to be lively for its 2024 instalment.
Tickets to attend this year’s Royal Geelong Show will go online on September 1, with this year’s fireworks displays confirmed for the Friday and Saturday night slots at 8.45pm.
“Jack’s Day”, on Thursday, October 17, allows for children under the age of 15 to attend the show for free.
The full rides and showbags list will also be announced in October.
“Anyone who hasn’t attended the Geelong Show before, the most succinct way I can describe the event is it is the perfect event to get a taste of the city and country,” Mr McCann said.
“There is everything on offer and it really is an agricultural extravaganza, and no visit is complete without getting a couple of show bags and some fairy floss.”
