Geelong Sustainability announces multi-region installation project

GEELONG Sustainability has announced a new collaboration with community partners across the Barwon region, transitioning community organisations to using renewable energy solutions.

Three prominent community facilities; the Queenscliff Maritime Museum, Cloverdale Community Centre, and Torquay Community House, all feature in the initiative.

The facilities will collectively receive rooftop solar systems totalling 100kW provided by Geelong Sustainability. Torquay Community House was the first organisation to receive its rooftop solar system, receiving 24 solar panels totaling 10kW.

The facility will be an example of how renewable energy alternatives can be used to drive resource efficiency, financial savings, and reduced carbon emissions.

Torquay Community House coordinator Prue Challis said the house is extremely grateful for the new solar system.

 

 

“By significantly reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, Torquay Community House can redirect valuable resources towards our core missions, further empowering the community we serve,” Ms Challis said.

The overall project’s capital costs come via a combination of the Victorian Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund and Geelong Sustainability’s Community Energy Revolving Fund.

Geelong Sustainability secured $70,000 from the Victorian government’s New Energy Jobs Fund, coupled with $25,979 from the Revolving Fund and a $45,000 boost from the Borough of Queenscliff towards the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.

“We are proud to lead this project that aligns with our vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future,” Geelong Sustainability CEO Dan Cowdell said.

“By partnering with these community organisations, we are not only reducing energy costs and carbon emissions but also inspiring other organisations to follow suit.”

Geelong Sustainability still encourages community members and stakeholders to contribute to the Community Energy Revolving Fund, which facilitates Geelong Sustainability’s ability to drive further sustainable initiatives.
