THE City of Greater Geelong is again seeking nominations for the Geelong Youth Awards to honour inspiring young people in the community.

It wants to recognise and celebrate those who have had or are presently having a positive impact in leadership, innovation, cultural awareness, community work, sport, arts, music and youth development.

Nominations are open across nine categories to those aged between 12 and 25 who live, work, learn or play in Greater Geelong.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said there were 132 nominations last year.

“Think about the quiet achievers, changemakers, creatives and leaders in your life – if someone just popped into your head, that’s your sign to nominate them!”

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Norlane ARC on September 5.

They will receive a trophy and a $500 contribution to support their ongoing interests and education.

This year, the ceremony is being held during Youth Fest, a month-long celebration across Victoria highlighting the contributions and achievements of young people in their communities.

Members of this year’s youth council will be on the judging panel and speak at the awards ceremony.

The youth award categories are:

Active Achievement Award

Arts & Music Award

Citizenship Award

Cultural Awareness Award

Innovation Award

Inspiration Award

Leadership Award

Unsung Hero Award

Volunteer Award – Working with young people (all ages category).

Nominations, which close on July 20, can be made at geelong.link/YouthAwards
