Geelong to offer packed IWD program

Set by the United Nations, this year’s theme has been chosen to commemorate 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, a global blueprint for realising gender equality that was adopted in 1995 by 189 countries and has been described as a “watershed moment” for women’s rights.
The City of Greater Geelong will kick off festivities across the region on March 5 with its annual Women in Community Life awards.
The ceremony will be held at Geelong Arts Centre from 5.30pm. For tickets, head to geelongaustralia.com.au
Also on March 5, Lifeline Geelong will host its biggest high tea to date, with raffles and silent auctions to help raise funds for the support centre.
To be held at GMBHA Stadium from 1.30pm, the event will feature guest speakers Sophie Marshall, Nikki Everett and Roxie Bennett.

The Soroptimist International of Geelong’s annual IWD breakfast is set for Thursday, March 6 in the Captain’s Room at GMHBA Stadium, from 7am.
Amy Gardner, the founder of travel blog Seniors in Melbourne, is this year’s guest speaker, while popular radio presenter and women’s business mentor Loretta Hart will serve as MC.

Cocktails, conversations and camaraderie will be in large supply at award-winning North Geelong distillery Anther on March 8, when a panel of experts meet to discuss the political divide growing between young people.

Meanwhile, Provenance Wines, in partnership with Geelong MP Christine Couzens, will put on a two-course lunch from 11am on March 8.
Carley Scott, who is best-known for her contributions to the space and aerospace fields, is set to attend.
