A TRIO of talented tradies have put their talents on national display for medal-winning performances against the best in their field.

Three The Gordon TAFE students won awards at the 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Championships held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre last month.

Mechatronics students Jack Terrill and Tristan Rozenfeld won silver as a team, while carpentry apprentice Trey McAuley finished with bronze.

The WorldSkills challenge pitted TAFE students from across the country in high-pressure challenges to put their teaching into practice.

Mr Rozenfeld, who is completing a Certificate III in electrotechnology, said he trained weekly to prepare for the competition.

“My partner and I trained with our mentor Andy Heath to broaden our knowledge of PLCs, which gave me a better understanding of how they operated in my workplace.”

The Gordon electrical teacher and Worldskills trainer Andy Heath said the competition was highly beneficial to its participants.

“WorldSkills events are part of a lifelong adventure to self-growth, development, opportunities and achievement, irrespective of whether you get through to an international or national competition, or participate at the regional level, watching students grow in confidence, knowledge and their career is inspiring.”
