WATHAURONG Aboriginal Co-operative kicked off NAIDOC Week with its annual ball on Sunday night (July 7).

The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is “Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud,” celebrating the unyielding spirit of communities.

NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

The ball brought the community together as they celebrated the achievements of the local Aboriginal community and Wathaurong.

Held at The Pier Geelong, the 2024 ball was a sell-out event, with 450 tickets sold as attendees danced into the night.

Loud n Deadly, made up of local community members, provided the live entertainment with local Troy Benjamin ending the night with his DJ set.

The ball has been a popular NAIDOC event in the region in past years, recently having to move to a bigger venue to cater for the demand.

The annual Belle, Beau, Matron and Patron awards were also announced on the evening.
