Geelong workshop to help girls thrive
THE Live Life Whole Project is rolling into Geelong these school holidays with a wellbeing workshop.
As a female health and wellbeing organisation, the initiative delivers evidence-based programs to schools, sporting groups and communities.
Aimed at girls aged between 8 and 12, the Wednesday, July 9 workshop is designed to build confidence, connection and wellbeing in young girls through fun, interactive and supportive activities.
Live Life Whole Project head of education Kylie Hetherington said it is a fun and interactive day, covering some important topics.
“We’re looking at how to support their connections, looking at some of those key skills with friendships and what they need and want from their connections with others,” she said.
“There will be some key skills they learn or look at with supporting body image and how to be focusing on what their body can do for them instead of their appearance.”
Former Australian Diamonds netballer Madi Browne will also be joining the workshops as a guest host, sharing her wealth of knowledge and what it’s like to be a young female going through sporting pathways.
Ms Hetherington said the workshops are important in ensuring young females get the support they need at an early age.
“Some of the key issues that really face these young females start quite early, and females show up really disproportionately in some of the key statistics around mental health, around that body image space, around depression and anxiety,” she said.

“There’s a whole lot of reasons why that happens, but preventative, proactive education can make a really big difference, and we’ve found the earlier the better in that space.”
The project is welcoming participants who want to explore the space to head along to the workshops, regardless of if they are facing any particular issues.
The School Holiday Wellbeing Workshop will run out of the South Barwon Football Netball Club.
