GEELONGPORT has retained its position as one of the world’s most sustainable ports.

According to its 2025 Sustainability Report, released today (Monday, December 15), the port achieved a perfect score of 100 and ranked first globally in the 2025 GRESB Infrastructure Asset benchmark for sustainable port and transport infrastructure.

This marks the fifth consecutive year the port has secured a five-star rating, reinforcing its reputation for excellence in sustainability.

The report details continued progress toward the ambition to become Australia’s most sustainable port, including a 91 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2018 and a further 7.3 per cent reduction in the past year.

GeelongPort signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to respectful collaboration and investment in meaningful outcomes for Country, community and culture.

The report also highlights a thriving workplace culture, with GeelongPort earning recognition as one of Work180’s Top 101 Workplaces for Women, delivering Safe and Respectful Workplace training in partnership with the Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre, and welcoming two new apprentices to grow local talent. New initiatives such as wellness and volunteering leave continue to invest in wellbeing, respect and community connection.

GeelongPort continues to support Victoria’s clean energy future through its role in the Golden Plains Wind Farm Program, which now powers more than 750,000 homes and represents around nine percent of the state’s electricity needs. Stage 1 was completed in October 2024, preventing more than 770,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Stage 2 is now under way, with completion expected in mid-2027.

The report was launched today at Royal Geelong Yacht Club, with attendees including GeelongPort chief executive officer Brett Winter, City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj and Tour de France winner Cadel Evans, and industry and community partners.

“We’re proud to set a global benchmark for sustainable port operations. Achieving a number one ranking with a perfect score reflects years of deliberate, disciplined action,” Mr Winter said.

“For us, success is defined by meaningful results that last: fewer emissions, stronger partnerships, and a cleaner energy future for Victoria.”

GeelongPort partnership continues to deliver community-focused outcomes that align with sustainability goals and regional wellbeing.
