TWO Geelong businesses have been celebrated for their contributions to the state’s $33.5 billion manufacturing industry, taking home major accolades at last week’s Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards.

Corio-based steel manufacturer Hanlon Industries was named Manufacturer of the Year in the medium-sized business category, while meat manufacturing business Farm Foods was awarded Manufacturer of the Year in the regional business category.

For Hanlon Industries, the title is recognition for its active involvement in the local community, its commitment to fostering high-quality education and sustainable employment by offering apprenticeship opportunities to local youth, and efforts to promote diversity within the workforce.

In a post on Facebook, a Hanlon Industries spokesperson said the award was a testament to the drive, dedication and innovation of the organisation’s entire team.

Operating across a variety of sectors including road, rail, airports and commercial developments, the second-generation family business is recognised as an industry leader in steel fabrication.

“This recognition celebrates our journey, our people and our pursuit of pushing the boundaries in the industry,” the spokesperson said.

“At Hanlon Industries, we have always strived for excellence in every aspect of our manufacturing process – from cutting-edge technology to sustainable practices and a commitment to quality.

“We’d like to thank our amazing employees, partners and customers for their continuous support.

“Together, we will keep driving innovation and setting new standards in manufacturing.”

Hanlon Industries was also shortlisted for Manufacturer of the Year in the regional business award category, an honour that was ultimately awarded to Farm Foods.

The win is the second consecutive Hall of Fame induction for the Breakwater-based Farm Foods, after the business last year took home the title of Manufacturer of the Year in the medium-sized business category.

The business has grown over the past 25 years from a small shop in Birregurra selling fresh handmade meat product into a meat manufacturing business with international reach.

Farm Foods’s recognition in this year’s awards underscores its strong support for both regional manufacturing and employment in the Geelong and western region of Victoria, and celebrates the progressive business approach that ensures it remains at the forefront of consumer trends and product innovation.

Minister for Jobs and Industry Natalie Hutchins congratulated this year’s Hall of Fame award winners and finalists who, she said, play a critical role in creating Victorian jobs and growing the state’s economy.
