HUNDREDS of trucks rolled through Geelong last weekend for the 10th anniversary of the Camp Quality Geelong Convoy, raising a record-breaking $300,000 to support children with cancer.

The convoy, which was comprised of more than 250 trucks, journeyed 40km through the region for the annual fundraiser, setting out from Beckley Park on Sunday at 9am before travelling in a large circuit through Corio, Lara, Waurn Ponds and Geelong.

Camp Quality chief executive officer Deborah Thomas celebrated the success of the event and its “incredible” fundraising achievement, calling it a “testament to the generosity and spirit of the Geelong trucking community”.

“This funding will make a significant impact, helping Camp Quality bring positivity, fun and essential support to Victorian kids facing cancer and their families,” she said.

“The unwavering support from local truckies, businesses and their families shows just how deeply Geelong cares about giving back.”

For more than 40 years, Camp Quality has worked to bring positivity, fun and laughter back into the lives of kids facing cancer, through a range of services and programs tailored to help them deal with their own cancer diagnosis, or the diagnosis of a loved one.

Brad Drew was given the honour of leading this year’s convoy, after he raised more than $16,000 for Camp Quality, the highest individual result of all participating truckies.

Reflecting on the convoy reaching its 10-year milestone, Ms Thomas said the magic of the event lies in the way it brings people from all walks of life together.

“There’s something truly special about seeing hundreds of noisy, beautiful trucks rolling through town, with smiling drivers and their families waving to the crowds and the crowds waving back.

“It’s a moment that brings out the kid in all of us.

“It’s more than a convoy, it’s a celebration of generosity, community spirit and the power of joy in tough times.

“We’re so grateful and proud to celebrate 10 years of positive impact and can’t wait to see where the next decade takes us.”
