THE City of Greater Geelong is helping prospective business owners get a leg up with free drop-in sessions and workshops.

Run by the city’s investment and economy team at the Lara Library, the November 26 event will help people gain a better understanding of council requirements including permits, zoning, regulations and compliance guidelines when it comes to starting their own business.

The coming session is the second held by the city and allows participants to book a 30-minute one-on-one appointment for tailored support.

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the workshop is a great opportunity to learn how to start a small business and plan for success.

“Navigating the permits and registrations needed to be able to start a business can be tricky, and these business support events are useful tools to get you on the right track.”

In partnership with Business Victoria, the city is also hosting a separate workshop on November 14 at Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct for anyone in the early stages of starting a small business in Geelong.

The workshop explores the steps of setting up a small business, choosing the right platform and protecting your business with the right insurance.

Chair of the city’s economic development portfolio, Cr Trent Sullivan, said the city was pleased to partner with Business Victoria to host the workshop.

“The workshop will be valuable to plan out small business and to discover the programs, services and resources available to your business from the city.

“If you’ve ever considered starting a small business, these sessions are an invaluable way to get started.”
