A PROUD member of the GSODA Junior Players who went onto be a Hollywood star stepped back on stage with his old company.

Former Geelong local Guy Pearce was a special guest performer in GSODA Junior Players’ production of And Thus Began The Tale, which was staged three times at Geelong Arts Centre across Friday and Saturday last week.

GSODA describes And Thus Began The Tale as “a variety show that celebrates stories, storytellers, and those who love hearing them”.

The show contains a diverse range of repertoire extending from the 1920s to the 2020s, including adaptations of literature from Jane Eyre to Fun Home and songs from books now beloved as musicals including Tuck Everlasting, Hadestown and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Pearce, who was with GSODA from 1980 to 1984 but is known worldwide for performances in films including Memento, L.A. Confidential, The Hurt Locker, The Rover and Iron Man 3, was one of two special guests in the production and appeared alongside fellow GSODA alumni and now TV actor Sophia Katos (Wentworth, Packed to the Rafters).

In a video posted on GSODA’s Facebook page on Saturday, Pearce said he was back in Geelong and “feeling very nostalgic”.

“And even more nostalgic because I’m getting to perform once again with the GSODA Junior Players after I don’t know how many years; it’s been a long time.

“We had our opening night last night of And Thus Began The Tale, and can I tell you these kids are just so talented – it’s such an honour to share the stage with them, it’s bringing back so many wonderful memories.”
