COMMUTERS, shoppers and other visitors can continue to park all day in central Geelong for a discounted fee on Fridays.

Parking at the Busport Car Park on Clare Street will remain at $7.70 a day following an extension to the City of Greater Geelong’s half-price Friday program.

The initiative was first introduced in June this year to provide more cost-effective parking options and to encourage more workers in central Geelong to come into the office on Fridays.

Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj welcomed the extension.

“More people visiting and working in central Geelong on Friday means more customers frequenting the variety of cafes, eateries and other businesses that call our CBD home.

“Come take advantage of half-price parking and support our fantastic businesses here in central Geelong.”

Deputy mayor Ron Nelson said the measure would continue to enhance the culture and vibe of the Geelong CBD.

“Not only does it get more people in central Geelong during the day — it also encourages people to stay there after work, too.

“People can come into work, then enjoy a dinner on the waterfront or in our thriving Little Malop Street precinct, a show at Geelong Arts Centre or Costa Hall, and everything else our CBD has to offer after hours.”

Parking at Busport Car Park requires the EasyPark app.
