Have your say on Hamlyn Park Reserve
A SMALL oval for juniors, a covered barbecue area and security lighting are among the community’s suggestions for inclusion in the new Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve Master Plan.
A local resident has also suggested an avenue of trees, via an interactive map – just one of the ways for the community to have input into the new master plan.
The City of Greater Geelong is encouraging the community and stakeholders to help shape the new plan for the reserve in Calvert Street, which is opposite Hamlyn Views School and adjacent to Western Heights College.
A master plan was developed in 2010 and the council has identified changes over the past decade which have highlighted a need to review and refresh the vision for the reserve.
The project aims to address issues and opportunities across the entire reserve, including active and passive recreation facilities and connections to Western Heights College.
The plan will aim to balance the sporting and recreation needs of user groups with the interests of the broader community.
Cultural and environmental values; landscape and amenity; pedestrian and vehicle safety; sporting infrastructure requirements; the needs of tenant clubs and groups and adjacent schools; the playground and provision of open space will all be included in the scope of the project.
The reserve has a large range of user groups including football, netball, tennis, cricket, scouts and community groups, including ballroom dancing.
Hamlyn Park also provides open space parkland and playground equipment for passive recreation.
This information will be used to inform the project brief for the development of the master plan.
The city is taking feedback until December 3 and people of all ages and interests can share their ideas for the future of Hamlyn Park Recreation Reserve by completing an online survey, using an interactive map to leave comments or attending an online or drop-in session to discuss the plan.
On-site sessions are planned for November 17 and 18 between 4pm and 6pm, and an online session is planned for November 17 10am to 11am, with bookings essential for all sessions through the council website.
