Headstrong Games empowers young men
THE VOICES of Geelong’s young men took centre stage at headspace Geelong’s Headstrong Games earlier this month.
The September 15 event aimed to empower young men and their supporters to speak up about their mental health and wellbeing.
It featured a variety of sporting activities, an engaging forum, a barbecue and a free raffle.
The forum highlighted the voices of three young men from varied background, including culturally and linguistically diverse and LGBTQIA+ communities.
The trio shared their personal experiences with mental health challenges and the unique struggles faced by young men in opening up about their feelings.
headspace Geelong thanked the community for their support of the event.
“The Headstrong Games was beneficial for initiating discussions among young men about their mental health challenges and exploring effective support strategies,” a spokesperson said.
“The event facilitated meaningful conversations and engaged participants in activities that helped build a sense of connection.”
The organisation said they are committed to hosting more events like the Headstrong Games.
“These gatherings are important for providing young men with opportunities to engage in community activities while feeling supported in discussing their mental health. “We recognise the value of creating a welcoming environment where young men can comfortably access the support they need.”
