A DEVELOPER has lodged a $2.5-million plan to build four multi-storey townhouses at Geelong busiest thoroughfare.

The City of Greater Geelong is advertising plans for four new dwellings at 302 La Trobe Terrace, Newtown – opposite McKillop Street – at the current site of a three-bedroom residence.

The new properties would be three storeys tall including a rooftop terrace and be set behind each other to give the impression of a single property when viewed from the street, planning documents said.

Proponents stated that its development would design the new dwellings to fit in with their surroundings.

“The proposed dwellings are contemporary in style with a combination of flat and pitched roof form and is well articulated through the use of punctuations and proposed materials/finishes.

“The design of the development has a contemporary, yet conservative aesthetic, is reflective of its time, responds to key forms found in the broader area and seeks to provide a response that will reflect the design of emerging developments within this transitionary area.”

Planning documents also claimed that the development would fit city policies regarding infill development and encouraging diversity of housing options, especially near central activity centres.

COGG is advertising the plans that are open for public comment until December 17.
