Housing boost approved near Bell Post Hill
THE City of Greater Geelong has given approval for a new 3,645-house precinct near Bell Post Hill, potentially providing new homes for 10,000 people should construction be completed.
Council voted at last week’s meeting to adopt the Creamery Road Precinct Structure Plan (PSP).
The proposed housing precinct covers 344.57 hectares, capable of housing 3,645 dwellings for approximately 10,200 residents.
The PSP outlines plans for the proposed Creamery Road precinct, located in the northeast of the Western Geelong Growth Area to the west of Bell Post Hill.
Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said the completion of the Creamery Road PSP will provide the framework to assist the City in addressing housing demands in the region.
“This structure plan is an exciting next step for the future growth of Greater Geelong,” Cr Sullivan said.
“An incredible amount of thought and planning has gone into creating this structure plan and I thank council officers for their countless hours of work.”
PSPs take into account a range of community assets that can be created in the future.
Assets might include schools, sporting fields, childcare and early learning centres, arterial roads and transport corridors, major intersections, storm water drainage, shared paths, bridges, parks, open spaces and nature reserves.
The Creamery Road PSP also has features prioritising public transport, walking and cycling between key community facilities such as schools, activity centres and recreation reserves.
Council now awaits the Minister for Planning’s consent to the exhibition of the PSP.
If accepted, it will allow the public to make submissions in response to it. The exhibition is expected to take place later in the year.
