Hundreds enjoy Lara Fun Run

November 3, 2023 BY

Runners commence their race in front of Lara's historic Pirra Homestead.

HUNDREDS of runners took in the wide-ranging and lush beauty of Serendip Sanctuary during this year’s Lara Fun Run with hundreds taking on the annual community event.

Organisers were thrilled with how this year’s Lara Fun Run took place, citing increasing numbers for its smallest event of the year and sublime weather.

“It’s a great community event which involves a lot of local, but also a lot of visitors who have never been to Lara before,” PB Events owner and organiser Justin Higgins said.

“The weather was perfect, which helps, but we try to get that good community feeling while enjoying an active activity, like our fun runs for instance.

“We do six different events like this throughout the year across the state, but this one holds an emotional connection to us as it was the first one we started back in 2011.

“We also see the Lara Fun Run event as a great opportunity to showcase what the town is all about and what people can do nearby.”

The Lara Fun Run is also PB Event’s smallest fun run event out of the six with just under 600 participants joining Sunday’s meet.

Shane Mallia (35:22) crossed the finish line first on the day in the 10-kilometre run, while Alyssa Bearzi (17:40) claimed a first-place finish in the five-kilometre run/walk.

Amanda Tuner and Symphony Robinson were two of many to go at a walking pace in the 5km course.

Runners raised over $2,680 on the day as well with funding going to 149 separate charity fundraisers.

PB Events’ next fun run in the Greater Geelong region will take place on March 3 on the Barwon River when River Run Geelong returns next year.
